Full Deck Challenge #2

Deck of Cards

Today I am going to show you an altered playing card that I have made. I have decided to join in a challenge that is to decorate a deck of playing cards. The host of this challenge is Shanoukiart on YouTube. For this challenge, she is giving us 4 prompts that we need to use on that week’s card. We can also add other elements to the card if we choose to do so.

Prompts for my altered playing card.

The prompts for the first card are: bright pink, a hole punch, a bird and numbers. For my pink I used some pink ric-rac, my bird is an owl stamp, for the numbers I used an old date stamp and then I chose this hole punch because it made smaller holes.

Extra elements for my altered playing card.

The other elements that I choose for my first altered playing card were: StazOn black ink, Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Vintage Photo ink, vellum and this scrubby yarn. I also used Elmer’s glue, but I forgot to take a picture of that!

The first step that I did was to glue tissue paper onto the playing card. I did this to make the card look dull instead of shiny and to have a little texture on the card.

Since I wanted the card to look vintage, I dissolved some instant coffee in water and used a paintbrush to brush that onto the card. I really like how that turned out.

I tore the vellum into triangles and inked the edges with the vintage photo ink. Next, I punched holes in the vellum and the card so that I could sew them together. I added the ricrac in-between the vellum and placed the owl picture into the bottom vellum piece. I then glued cheesecloth onto the bottom vellum piece, glued the paper with the date on it and then added a flat back pearl. After I finished the video, I thought the card looked to bare, so I added a bow in the top left corner along with a flat backed pearl. I think it gave the card a more finished look.

Here is the finished product! If you would like to see the process video, here is the link to that.
